Sometimes people think \u201cI\u2019ve been with my Accountant for 10 years, I\u2019m thinking about changing to a new Accountant but it is too much hassle and I\u2019m worried about moving\u201d.<\/p>\n

It is really easy to change and your new Accountant will do all the hard work. This is how it happens:<\/p>\n

Step 1<\/strong>
\nInform your old Accountant that you are appointing a new one. Your new Accountant can even give you a draft letter so all you need do is sign it.<\/p>\n

Step 2<\/strong>
\nThe new Accountant writes to the old Accountant to ask for Professional Clearance, this clearance letter is required by our professional codes of conduct. The old Accountant will then reply to the new Accountant and provide them with all the information they need e.g. last set of accounts, copies of tax returns and any other relevant information.<\/p>\n

Step 3<\/strong>
\nUnder the Money Laundering Regulations your new Accountant will have to check that you are who you say you are. You will be asked to produce both photo id and proof of your address (for example, your passport and a utility bill).<\/p>\n

Step 4<\/strong>
\nYou will be asked to sign an Engagement Letter by your new Accountant and this will outline their and your responsibilities, their terms & conditions and the services to be provided.<\/p>\n

Step 5<\/strong>
\nIn order for your Accountant to correspond with H M Revenue & Customs (HMRC) on your behalf you will need to give your authorisation.\u00a0 This can be done one of two ways:<\/p>\n

  1. Your new Accountant will ask you to sign a form 64-8 which they will then send to HMRC, or<\/li>\n
  2. The new Accountant will apply online to be your tax agent and you will then receive an authorisation code by letter to forward to your new Accountant.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Your new Accountant will handle the whole process and five steps later it\u2019s all done.<\/p>\n
